more practice. i dont think you have got enough practice shooting yet. you should shoot at least 1 round for every yard of distance out to your maximum shot range. so everyone should shoot at least 200 rounds a year. thats roughly a box of ammo every month, now is that really too mugh to ask?

At 35 yds you shouldn't be missing,Your site pic must be all over the place.Breathing as mentioned is very important. You may be too loose.Try pulling rifle up and siting, take note of site movement. Then Pull rifle up and pull into shoulder a little tighter,do not pull on forestock, note site movement to see if their is a improvement. If you squeeze not jerk the trigger you will see excactly where round is going.Just a couple of ideas, hope it helps.

Practice with a .22 rimfire. It is really cheap to shoot and will improve your overall accuracy. Practice shooting on a bench first that is where you can practice your breathing techniques. Once you get that down practice offhand shooting along with your breathing. After that practice pratice and practice some more. That is a technique for helping you to be more confident with your shooting abilites. As for calming down when a deer suddenly appears in your sight, good luck. No, what I try (stress the word try) to do when I see a deer is take a few deep breaths and concentrate on putting the bullet on a specific spot. Hopefully all the practicing will come into play and you will naturally breath correctly and squeeze the trigger. Hopefully! Practice and experience are your two major factors in clean kills on game. Good luck.

Most of the time when you are missing deer you are doing stuff that you are totally unaware of. This last Fri. my brother-in-law and i were walking to our stands and saw a deer in the bean field we were hunting over. He takes a prop to get a good shot off and snatches the gun approximately six inches straight up due to the recoil. Only problem was the gun wasn't loaded. I had been telling him he was flinching or something when he was shooting but he sorta didn't believe me. I told him the same thing mentioned above. Get a .22 and shoot up a few bricks to get used to the mechanics of shooting. He can shoot on the range ok but under field conditions shooting hasn't become second nature yet. It takes practice, practice, practice.

Everybody has pretty much covered mechanics, calming of the nerves, practice, etc. But one thing I might mention is keep the crosshairs on the target...almost like a follow through idea. I have seen many try and look over or around the gun/scope when squezzing on game...but you should be able to see the whole thing unfold through the scope...if not you are closing your eyes or dropping/swinging the barrel. Try a rest, tucking that gun in and looking through the scope at the target before and after you shoot. If you use iron sights well it is a bit tougher but still possible...picture the bullseye and watch that bullseye through all parts of the shot. The slightest pressure up or down can make the difference. Not only that some people think the crosshairs are where they are suppose to be but really forget to see the + mark the spot and shoot off either the lateral or horizontal line...which results in misses. Put the + where you want the bullet to go, remember your mechanics and you'll be fine.
