It's strange that I found this post. I'm not here often (enough) but I had a whole bunch of deer nearly run me over 2 days ago.

I was walking with my dog leashed in the preserve woods when I heard great noise coming from up ahead. It was somewhere between 15-20 deer running pretty much full blast. Some real nice bucks too.

I said to myself that something had to make them deer run like that. Soon I see a big tanish lab running around thru the woods. Followed by it's owner, who looked like a hunter type to me with the camo hat.

I asked him to leash his dog cause it was jumping around my dog. I told him all dogs were supposed to be leashed in there. He laughed and asked how he was supposed to train his dog to run deer if it's on a leash?

I walked away and called the DNR and let them know. They said they were sending an officer. Before I got out of the woods more deer ran back past my way cause he was still doing it.

The deer were running out across the road and could have caused anaccident.
what a moron. i hope they caught him.

Hulk are you from Illinois by chance?

I heard a radio call for ISP (an IDNR CPO's channel) on Wednesday which would have been 2 days before your post. Call was to Ottawa woods in Lyons, IL. Lyons PD was dispatched, too. Call said, "unleashed tan labarador -harrassing deer -male white 1X - unknown vehicle".

Was that you by any chance?

Uncle Matt, yes that was most likely me. Ilive in Darien, IL. That is a great place to go and walk the dog and see lots of deer.

I have been back since and haven't seen the guy with the dog - but lots of deer including a fewwith some tremendous racks. Found the partial skeleton of a buck along the 47th road that had the antlers cut off the skull. Probobly hit by a car or truck.

Small world Hulk.

You know last year they arrested a couple of guys in that same preserve for poaching one of those big bucks in there.

They were seen shooting it with a bow from the parking area where people feed them and it ran off after being hit. The guy who seen them called the cops but when the cops got there they were no where to be found. Then the cops got another call asking how to claim a deer that was hit by a car (the same 2 bozos). Then they showed back up in a van to retrieve their "car hit" deer. After they got the hard work of dragging it to the parking areadone....................the cops busted them. They tried to lie and say they didn't know it was shot, they thought it had been hit by a car. When they werebeing booked a search warrant was obtained for their residences. They were told this and fessed up.

Idon't think they got in alot of trouble. I seem to rememberhearing they got about $500 in fines total and lost their bow equipment.Punks.

Maybe that deer skeleton you found was hit by a car - or was it?

I went thru there yesterday and there was a CPO in an Impala telling some old farts to stop feeding the deer and made them pick the lettuce and corn up. It's against the law (newer rule) to feed deer in a manner where it is not entirely consumed in your presence. (Not sure of the exact wording - it's just meant to keep deer from sharing spit and nose fluid to fight CWD).

Maybe I'll run into you some time. I'm not the CPO - just driving the Green Dodge truck.
