Have you had much time at the range if any?

Did you shoot the guns before the season? I love going up there and chasing Sika deer. It is loads of fun. Get to a range and practice and next time wait for the stag to come in right before dark.

Why are you only taking 3 shells into the woods with you and what kind of gun only holds 2? Sounds like you either need to seriously practice more, sight in your guns before the season, or get over your target panic. Possibly a combinaton of the three.

Good luck!

Never heard of a double barrel? I don't have one, but that takes2 shells.

I always take 3, Just because it doesn't take more then 1 to drop one(I've always dropped my deer in their tracks). It's just a habit to put 2 in, I have no idea why.

Now for sighting, I go dove hunting and shoot clay pigeons in the summer. I hit the pigeons on almost every shot, I'm confused why I missed...so many times. Especially with the 12 gauge?

Well you need more practice, I wouldn't be caught dead in the woods with you if you miss that many times!

When shooting shot shells at doves and clay targets you POINT the gun. When shooting slugs you AIM the gun. Your dad needs to drag you to a range where you can shoot until you can hit your target. It's just a matter of time until you hit one in the guts or the hind end. Sorry to sound harsh but you have no business shooting slugs a living targets until you can hit your target with confidence.

Nicely said. Thats where the term "slob" gun hunter comes from.
