I have plenty of land here so if anyone wants to bring a big northern buck or two down here I will adopt a couple and take good care of them.

The northern deer and southern deer are different sub species. The size of northern deer is attributed to a larger blood flow to survive the weather, makes them grow faster, and larger.

If it were strictly nutrition, you could take a deer in the south and feed him enough to make him grow as big as a northern deer, but this is not the case. The Texas Parks and wildlife department maintains a herd that they supply free choice highly nutritious food from weaning age on, and they don't get any bigger to speak of.

I think its more than just genetics, I have been on hunts in La where we have harvested deer in excess of 265 lbs. It does have a lot to do with nutrition, age class, and territory, here in Middle TN on rare occasion there have been 300+ pound bucks taken.
