I didn't miss the second time, but....
I never found him. I refer to my post last night where I took two shots at a nice 6 point.
We went back this morning and found a blood trail. We tracked that buck for 3.5 hours---about a mile or so. We found blood---some meat---some hair---and even some bone chips. The trail eventually led right into a large farm pond. We gave up after that.
I hope he survives---but I have my doubts.

I hate to hear that. I hate to see a good animal wasted but, when you do your best to take a good shot and then do the best tracking job that you can, then you have done all that you can do. It happens to the best of us. I tracked a doe one year for about eight hours, and over two miles through woods and swamp land. The blood trail finally just ended, I never did find the deer. Now I try to be sure to take a good shot, I don't try "iffy" shots or shots at running deer, then I look the area over with a fine tooth comb, that's about all you can do! Better luck next time!

Im glad to hear you followed up the next day.
I think if you tracked him that far and found some bone you probably hit him in the leg.Did you notice any drag mark at all.I think he will live maybe you will get another shot at him Good Luck.

My brother got a bad leg hit on a big buck back in the 80s. the thing wouldnt stop going, we tracked him all of one day, found him early the next day. We figured we tracked him 14 miles in a big half circle.

My cousin lost one in the river once, the deer was double lung shot, but ran straight into the river and that was that. Sorry you lost him, he is probably in the bottom of the pond, I would go back to the pond over the next few days, if he drowned he will eventually start to float and at least you can recover the rack. In a river it is a different story, they may not surface until they are miles down stream. Please check back at the pond and let us know if he shows up.
