now for the negitive points ... the first day when we were drove out to our stands we were told that we would have to hike into the blinds because the 4X4 might get stuck in the snow ...I had almost a mile to walk and Glen had about a half of mile ...sit for 11 hrs a day staring up a very narrow cut line hoping to see a monster buck cross out of the bush ... between Glen and myself we put in 120 hrs in the stand ..hiking in and out while our outfitter set in his truck all day smoking ...drinking coffee ...listning to sports radio ...and napping ...
This is why I would never be an outfitter. Premadonas bitching about actually being forced to hunt.

while in my stand on the 2nd day I was so bored that I decided to shoot at my decoy about 100 yards away...
You're shooting at your decoy and you wonder why:

between Glen and myself we put in 120 hrs in the stand... .on stand we saw a total of 6 deer ...thats rightONLY 6 deer between the two of us in 120 hrs...
Maybe because you where shooting at your decoy!!! I for one would have shot that borrowed rifle before I took it into the woods so that I would know where it was shooting.

I wasn't there so I shouldn't take sides
Listen I'm not very politically correct, and I've been known to run off at the mouth too much
Just my not so humble opinion! flame me

shato out
Shato you sir are intitled to your opinion ...but like you said "you were not there" ...we arrived in Edmonton around 2.00 on Sunday ...left the airport about 2.45 and arrived at the place we would be staying around 3.30 ...from there it would have been a hour drive to be able to shoot this rented rifle and we had yet to unpack ...also it get dark there about 5.30 and we were in the stand the next morning at 5.30 ...so yes had all things been right it would have made sence to shoot the rifle but there was just no time .... as fpr "flamming you" I think you do a good enough job at that yourself ..you need no help from me.

Sorry to hear it DD. I know you were looking forward to it. I have yet to be happy with an outfitted hunt. Guess you never get what was actually advertised.
BC I suppose your right however this was not our first hunt with him ..in the past hunts the deer were moving and he really did not have to do much but be a taxie driver ...however because of the bad weather and all the snow the deer according to him just were not moving ...we felt he should have made some adjustments to try and compensate for the conditions ..maybe that was expecting to much on our part ...maybe he felt justified sitting in his warm truck all day ...smoking ..drinking coffee ...eating ...sleeping ...instead of scouting some for his clients ...anyway its water under the bridge ..just wanted to vent a little and share ...

You know I think if I go, I am planning to go little earlier. Seems things pivot around snowfall.

Sir,

You didn't plan very well. You should have planned enough time to shoot your weapons upon arrival. Even if you were able to take your own rifle you should have shot it to make sure that it wasn't damage by the airlines. Maybe, the guy didn't provide the amount of service you thought you deserved. I can't argue that fact. I think he was a jerk for asking you to pay for the loan of the weapon. But, I don't buy the complaints about the hunting.

I don't buy the complaint about you had to walk a mile into your stand. BooHOO! You were "bored" while hunting so you decide to shoot your decoy in the middle of the day and you wonder why you're not seeing deer. That sounds like something my youngest boy would pull. He wanted to shoot squirrels while we were deer hunting.

I don't think you grasp the concept. Low animal movement is one of the things that happens. Heck, I've spent way more money than what you did and come home empty handed. One week I hunted for 7 straight days in rain, snow, fog, & sleet. Clumb numerous mountains. Spent one night on the mountain in grizzly country, because we hunted too long and couldn't get off before night fall. froze my tail off, didn't have enough food..... in the end I went home with nothing more than three Cows being spotted. Thats the way it goes sometimes. Don't like it, don't go.

Man, I am pretty shocked at the way you act here. I have been pretty impressed by most of your posts in guns. And sometimes, very good info. By the way you posted on there, I figured you to be a grown man in your 40's with some impressive gunsmithing experience. But here, I am pretty surprised.

I have been hunting in Canada a few times, and I have had to fight tooth and nail to get to test my gun. They usually don't like you to fire a bunch of shots around the lodge, and usually things are extremely hectic right when you get off the plane. You should know this stuff.
