Ammo question
I have a Savage .270 I bought last February and only shot it once until yesterday when I took it out and sighted it in. Well I have 150gr win bullets I got when I got the gun but hear the 130 gr's are a better round and possibly a 105gr that is now out. My question is, what are the differences in shooting these different rounds? I will be shooting 50-100 yards the first week of season and possibly up to 200yds the second week. Also what will the shooting pattern be compared to the 150 if I change and don't re-sight in the scope? I have about a 35-40 minute drive to where I sight the gun in at and would ratheer not go back to re-sight it being I don't want to scare the deer on these folks land a day or two before season opens and the land I will hunt first is only a small piece of land (about 15 acres) so I surely don't want to scare them out of there either. Thanks for the help.

RE: Ammo question
You won't see a whole lot of difference between 130 & 150 grains. Both will kill a deer stone dead at the ranges you mentioned. If you are already sighted in w 150 gr then that is what I would use this season and have no doubts that they will do the job.
130 grains will kick a little less and shoot a little flatter. Again, at the ranges you will hunt it won't make a heck of a lot of difference. I have not heard about the lighter bullets you mentioned so I have not knowledge or opinion of them. For many, many years the 130 grn has been the standard bullet wt in .270.
Good luck.

RE: Ammo question
Different bullet weights and brands can shoot to different points of impact. With out testing where the 130grain shoots in relation to the 150grain I would use the one you used to sight in with.

RE: Ammo question
well mohunter not picking fights but nothing wrong with 130s just because a certain bullet uses 150 grain. 130s actually shoot flatter which means less drop at the farther ranges he mentioned for the second week. Since hes already sighted in he shoot keep them tho.
to be dead honest the average person shootin without a rest probably cant tell a difference between 130s and 150s even out to 150 yards.

RE: Ammo question
If your gun shoots good with the 150 gr then stay with that.
Changing bullet weight will only confusse you.
And possibily cause you to miss a really big buck.
So just stick with what you got and change in the summer when you have time to try the ither bullet weight.
