Public land in Nebraska

Public land in Nebraska
Howdy all
I was wondering if anyone hunts public land in NE
I had a stand up for archery hunting outside of Ogallala and only saw paintballers.
The gun opener is this weekend and was thinking of hunting the land closer to the lake
kinda wondering if anyone has ever hunted that with a gun and how it went.

RE: Public land in Nebraska
Im in Kearney-and muzzleload public land on the Platte around here-Am going back to the Panhandle for rifle opener this weekend.
I'd stay in your stand this weekend-be the first out even if that means an hour before shooting time.
With a everyone that stomps through public lands on rifle opening weekend you will see deer pushed through your area.-Let other hunters do the "hunting" for you.
As for knowing specific areas around there I do not know might want to try the NGPC webpage forums-the have good info

I hunt alot of public land here in Nebraska, but it's on the eastern side of the state. I am looking forward to this weekend also. I agree with desertloper. The NGPC website should show you the locations of public hunting land in the area.
Good luck!!!

RE: Public land in Nebraska
For the amount of hunters, there isn't a lot of public hunting acreage in Nebraska. I have found the hunting much less dangerous when I'm on private land - even then, though, there are some people who will forge onto private land (without permission) simply because there's not a whole lot of public land available.
