Default Ghillie Suits?

Hi again, another question from an amatuer hunter. I made a homemade ghillie suit out of burlap and camo spray paint. It actually looks pretty good and i think it will work very well. The only concern i have is the smell of the burlap material. The burlap smell is pretty strong. Any suggestions.

i made minde years ago out of burlap potato sacks and craft oak leafs from a crafter store.

it works AWESOME. the smell never seemed to bother deer, but i did break it in during spring turkey season.

use RIT dye next time instead of spray paint. sheaper and lasts forever.

also, be prepared to replace strips of burlap annually. you always know where i hunt because of the burlap rag trail i leave on prickerbushes, fences, etc

i've had deer turkeys and ducks so close i could touch them. i've also had hunters walk up to me, and never had a clue i was there. just beware if barbed wire!

I have a ghille suit that I made last summer, and if you hang it outside for a few days prior to hunting that should help with it some. I mainly played paintball in mine but I know I could kill a deer with it if I wanted. Just too cold to wear it, I have to bundle up to stay nice and toasty. Also, just take it and throw it around in some leaves, the worse it looks the better. Remember, you're trying to look like nothing, not like a pile of burlap and leaves from Walmart.

If you hunt around cedar trees, I would get some of the branches and rub them all over the suit...that oil makes for a great cover scent.

Actually, wherever you hunt, find any evergreens like cedars, pines, balalms, ect.. clippings, needles, whatever and store your suit in a washed & descented storage tote from wallymart or wherever, with the clippings inside in a mesh/cheezecloth bags below & above your hunting clothes. Use mesh bages, the clipping inside your stuff get itchy..[:-]
Make sure you bend/break the pine needles to release the pine oils..
Works for me..
