I have read most of the post on this topic and the same question keeps comming back each time. this is the question addresed to believers "Why do you believers even bother to acknowlege such rubbish from an atheist when it is clear they are out of touch with reality. If you would have ignored the first post it would have ended. If an atheist cant argue or cause discord then they are not interested. again, that is directed to believers. DONE
To harvesting , I cant say that i say a prayer or thank God, because i am not conscious of it if I do, But i will say this I always have a feeling for the animal. I am some what saddened and feel great respect for the animal. And yes I am a large part native American (Indian) but i don't think that has anything to do with it.

Herein lies my case and point.

I posted with a differing view and made no disparaging remarks AGAINST ANY individual christian here. WELL... MAYBE THE SPITTLE COMMENT TO BOWFANATIC WAS A LITTLE OVER THE TOP...

I did however, SLAM [coulda slammed harder] the basis of a religion and the unproven tenements it is founded upon.

The 'Christian' element here has accused or implied about me PERSONALLY the following

[*]I'm uptight and demeaning[*]an unpleasant person[*]I blow the heads off baby fawns[*]I'm malicious[*]Asinine[*]Un-american [btw - I'm a vet] [*]Out of touch with reality [/list]
Hmmm... remember where I posted that disagreeing that Jesus is lord and being an outspoken non-believer would bring instant attacks from right field? .... THAT is why you only have those willing to argue post on this subject. Most would rather let the christians take over than raise a voice in protest. WHY?? Because any theological discussion about the veracity of Jesus and Christianity QUICKLY becomes a personal name calling contest.... because there is NO proof of god, jesus, mohammed, etc. etc. etc....

Would someone please quote where I posted a PERSONAL attack on a fellow hunter in this forum? .... Can't find one, eh? .... So why are y'all attacking me personally? Could it be because you cannot justify your beliefs other than through 'blind faith'? So you can't win the discussion on facts and have to rely on superstition and personal attacks?

Ahh... y'all would make good republicans. I voted Democrat for the first time in my life this year.... Why? Because the 'christian' right has hijacked that party and are more interested in making the USA a theocracy.

If y'all would like to discuss the merits and validity of your beliefs in a civilized manner - let's do so... But I think this quote will summarize the christian position on this.... "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth; I came not to send peace, but a sword." -- Jesus, Matthew 10:34

Now for the obligatory hunting material......

DID ANYONE SCORE THIS WEEKEND????

My buck got away... again... dadgumit... But I followed some track to a honey hole full of does!! Now next weekend - hehehe... I'll be there waiting...

JC-1,
I have been reading this thread for a couple of days now and really don't know where to begin my response to everything mentioned. First off, I am a Christian, and I am sorry to hear that other Christians have driven you away from the Lord. I believe the main problem with Christianity today is that so called 'Christians' are so hypocritical that they give 'Christ' and what it means to be a Christian, a bad name. The Bible even states in Matthew that few people will find the narrow path to heaven... “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?” Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” Matthew 7:21-23 NIV

I will pray for you daily and for Christians in general that they will live up to God's plan.

As for the verse in Matthew that you quoted about conflict, Jesus is trying to tell his followers that being a Christian isn't neccesarrily going to be easy. In the beginning of the chapter, Jesus is warning his disciples and is stating that He must be the most important thing in his followers' lives. Read the whole chapter and you will see what I mean.

"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." John 3:17-18.

-Mike

PS - As for the original question in this topic. I will definitely thank the Lord the day I harvest my first buck (or doe for that matter).

NCBloodhound - I wasn't other Christians who drove me away at all. It's just that I chose to think for myself and started asking some tough questions. Well, the only response I got was - HAVE FAITH! .. When I stated I needed more - I was told - HAVE FAITH DAMIT!! ... and it went downhill fro there.

About your JOHN Ch3 quote... may I paraphrase? ... "Do what I say or die!!" That's not what I would call the most pleasant way to gain converts.

The "humble" Jesus said that he was "greater than the temple" (Matt 12:6), "greater than Jonah" (Matthew 12:41), and "greater than Solomon" (Matthew 12:42). He appeared to suffer from a dictator's "paranoia" when he said, "He that is not with me is against me" (Matthew 12:30). Again - does this really sound like an honest socially beneficial organization to belong to?

In reference to your 'do my will' quote. The following quote was responsible for the burning of uunbelievers during the inquisition - "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." (John 15:6) Does that qualify for god's will?

You suggested reading the whole chapter for the reference. I can sympathize with you there. That usually is a good idea. I just figured would would follow standard religious elder practice and quote single verses in the context of my choosing. Just as did the religious leaders during the inquisition and as they continue to do today.

I have done a lot of research. Did you know that little in Christianity is original. Most of it is borrowed, just as the celebration of Christmas was borrowed from Roman and earlier pagan times. Even the Discovery channel did a 4 hour about the history of religions.

If you choose to believe because you WANT to - that's kewl! If you believe because you fear an alleged unproved enternal death?

Anyways.... Did ya get any this weekend??? .. Deer that is?

I thank God I can get out of bed in the morning and to hunt and after the hunt and after the harvest and for everything else. An Algonquin friend of mine even gave me some sacred tobacco to spread over the animal and site after the kill as an offering to GOD.

GOD BLESS

JRED, I thank God for everything, including hunt and harvest. I also carry my little pocket New Testament with me. There's something special about early morning in a tree stand reading God's word.
As for JC-1...I feel that he is a very intelligent person and he has seen the unfortunate hypocrisy that exist in mainstream Christianity. Our belief is "faith-based" and it can be difficult to convince a deep thinking non-believer of the importance of salvation. I also believe very few people have been led to or back to Christ with an "arguement". That is why most of us will continue to pray for JC-1. This comes from compassion that exists in the hearts of true Christians. I certainly do not care to debate with him, because his standards are based on the world's view. Where as mine are based on God's view. It would be a pointless quest.
God bless all,
Bill Moore

I agree with tex. but after reading all the post I cant think of why!lol
Oh, yes giving thanks. I have not given them their last meal but I do scatter seed/food where I took the deer so that other animals may gain from its giving of life. I also thank the deer/game for giving of its self to me.
We all have our beliefs, Who am I to say who is right and who is wrong. I guess when we cant hunt anymore we will find out.
Take care.
