I would like to know more about the traditions of "blowing in the mouth of the harvested deer" and "giving the deer his last meal".

I have not heard of these before. Are they Native American rituals or do they come from somewhere else? What do they sybolize?

Keep 'em all in the Bull.

Jred - You posted a public opinion and are being asked to publicly defend it. I see no reason to go to email.

Bowfanatic - could you talk a little louder please? I don't think I could understand you through the spittle. Besides, this is a HUNTING board - most topics should deal with hunting. You don't see me on an 'American Taliban' board talking about caliber selection, eh?

Mykey - I think you'll actually find exactly the OPPOSITE is true. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson blamed the 9/11 attacks on homosexuals and the godless people of America. Hmmm... tolerance?

Also, if there's something on TV, in the print media, or some other public forum that christians in general are against - ANYONE who espouses that idea is instantly and viciously attacked. The Christian Right wasted MILLIONS of our tax money to prove Bill Clinton got a BJ in the oval office. I'm sure he's the first one to EVER do that.... Compare and contrast - Jimmy Swaggart... Jim Baker... the Christians are more than willing to forgive one of their own, eh?

Edger - that argument is not valid even when it was first introduced by a french philosopher in the 1800s. It relies on an irrational fear and coercion to force compliance. We can discuss it in depth if you fell that it's necessary.

Bulzeye - I do not condemn you, or any other christian, for your beliefs any more than I condemn my son for believing in Santa Claus. After all - it's your god who condemns me.

I have friends of many beliefs. We get along fine as long as religion isn't a pre-requsite [sp] for our friendship. I do not require they adhere to my beliefs and they know there's no chance I'll adhere to theirs.

I also wish you the best in life. I just feel sorry for you in the fact that you have to thank 'god' for the results of all YOUR hard work. And no, telling Jesus to hit the road has not made me an unpleasant person. I've found that I'm much more relaxed and easy going as opposed to always uptight about 'sinning'.

Actually, sinning is quite pleasant!! Even the church ran brothels in the middle ages in England. They quite because they didn't have any penincillen [sp] back then. Now they simply protect priests from abusive alter boys.

Oh... yeah... I would probably be considered unpleasant by anyone who wanted to talk religion with me. I have my VERIFIABLE facts in order and challenge them to do the same. As long as religion isn't a topic and nobody is trying to proselytize me we get along fine. Just last week a client invited me to a church social function she was hosting. I politely refused and was cajoled into why. She was EXTREMELY suprised that as an athiest I didn't have horns and a tail. Well... I do have *A* horn... but as a christian - odds more likely she won't be checking my drawers.

<b>Jred</b> - I don't need your prayers. I need the sharing of your knowledge and experience in the field. I am a new hunter and haven't yet harvested a deer. Now that I've made my views CLEARLY known - we'll see how well the christian community here are able to look past their own biases and predjudices.

I can look past my biases and predjudices over your views. Jesus doesn't matter in my life and your beliefs don't matter either to me either. We can be friends without drinking to excess with nekkid harlots running around. [HOWEVER, I would consider you a good dear life-long friend if we did. hehe. ]

We can share in the hunting realm and 'all get along' if you'd like. I'll even remain politely quiet and non-confrontative when you prey over meals or a dead animal. I'll even ^5 you after you're done giving someone else credit for your work and congradulate you on a good deer!!

However, start trying to convince me of the absolute power of Jesus Christ and you'll soon despise me. I'll politely and calmly ask you questions that will make doubt the foundations of your beliefs. The only answer you'll have is - 'I want to believe.' And that's fine.. just know WHY you believe and all is well. And... if you're like 99% of the other sadistic individuals who thought they could bring my back into the fold - you'll probably wind up hollering at me thinking volume will change me. hehe.. NOT.

<b>Non-beliving Lurkers</b> - Grow a pair. The christians are an EXTREMELY organized and VOCAL minority. That's right - MINORITY! If we don't stand up for our rights - they will be all legislated away. I know I am not the only one here who doesn't follow the teachings of a virgin carpenter that had less education and knowledge of a modern 2nd grade child.

Someone has to stand up to the religious hordes. I could sure use some help. Remember - just confront them with common sense and facts... then sit back and watch them froth at the mouth. Hmmm... however, I think Jred may be the exception. His arguments are thought out, non-combatitive, and thought provoking. Although they use a conclusion to support the validity of the premises.

<b>Christians</b> - Good luck tomorrow getting that 8pt buck!!

<b>Athiests</b> - Good luck tomorrow getting that 10pt monster buck!!

Now - we've all said our bit... we can argue religion till we're blue in the face. Arguing with believers is like wrestling with pigs. You both get muddy - but the pig likes it. I'd rather talk about how to hunt a deer.

Sheeesh... 11:35p - wake up 04:00 tomorrow is gonna be a beyotch!! So... anyone wanna wish *ME* luck on tagging that 6pt buck I've scouted?

I said it pretty loud , yet it still failed to penetrate your skull!

Yep! It's a deerhunting forum! "Thanking God for your harvest?" is the title. The correlation It's pretty clear in jred's first sentence..."I will always say a short prayer when I have harvested a deer."

Was I outta line with "my loud spittle"? Probably! After all , his last sentence was..."Any other members feel the same or have an opinion?
For those that gave their honest albeit difference of opinion on the matter , I apoligize! It's your opinion and he did ask.

I've been around here long enough to know what your agenda was after your first sentence.."Lets see if power of prayer really works. Pray for me to get a 10pt this weekend"
Your last sentence in your first post would have been a fair answer and honest opinion. The rest was spittle in it's purest form!
jred(<his thread) asked you to reply via email!

Better yet , hop on over to the hunting/politics forum Feel free to post your anti-christian beliefs over there. I'm on my way!

I always thank God for my harvest. I can't "make" deer come to my stand, all I can do is wait with hopefull anticipation. I've seen to many things in my life and in the woods that IMOP prove there is a God.

I figure the deer belong to God and every now and then he gives one to me. It is my resposibility to use what he gave me to the fullest, the meat for the family, the hide, and sometimes even antlers for the wall to remember the gift and experience. It is truly Gods victory and not mine when the cycle of life and death is played out and another Georgia whitetail 'gives up the ghost'.

LOL.
You know, I think most folks can't figure me out. On one hand, I say something that seems like I am refuting God (such as my belief in evolutionary theory versus creationism). Then on the other, I will say something that supports God (like saying a prayer of thanks, grace before a meal, etc.) LOL, yeah, He really needs an ant like me to support Him. That would be tantamount to a flea believing it was carrying a dog around on its back.
JC-1, take a breath… it will be ok. I am not a practicing member of any particular religious affiliation at the moment. Call it the terrible 20's, I'll grow out of it and go back to Him. He will be waiting. However, I have enough respect and integrity to not insult those that are serious and very open about their religious teachings and beliefs. Maybe you should learn to exercise a little respect, integrity, and discipline on your own behalf. It might make life a tad bit easier with some folks. There’s certainly nothing wrong with expressing your feelings and opinions, but try to refrain from doing it in a malicious and dare I say, asinine way.

I am still just ain't to sure about the blowing in the deer's nose thing......

I always say a prayer! ( And I'm not ashamed to say - sometimes shed a tear - for a variety of reasons. )

Now....."Go Get Ya One!" (And say a prayer when ya do!)

As far as blowing into the deers nose,I was asked this becasue one of my club members asked if I were of an idian religion more that likley because I said out loud, thank you dear lord for today and this animal that will provide food.

Looking into this more I found out and acctually saw this on a hunting video. A modern indian tribes man took a deer and said a pray for it thanking the great one and the deer and for it's life offering. After words the indian picked the deers head up and blew into it's nose.

He didn't put his mouth over the deers mouth and do this, he simply blew his breath into the deers nose. What this means I do not know.

In regards to JC-1's reply, I said what I had to say in regard to your first and second post publicly and did so the best way I know how.

The only things that I would add ,again, is that your choose of words were demening and uncalled for. This was to be seen by other board members as well, your views and opinions are yours and that's fine, but why go out of your way to say things that will cause conflicts and hurt feelings, freedom of speach?

You also made mention that more people have been kill in the name of God, than for any other reason, so you have no interest in this cult/God.

Thou the numbers are smaller coutless numbers of people have died for this country, Because the believe in it this country as well as God. Are you also not willing to be part of this country, USA? Thou not a cult the principle is all the same.

I chose to e-mail you seperatly as it has nothing to do with this hunting forum, any longer. If you want it to be public, post it.

Again, all the best to you and good luck hunting!

For all other God fearing members I am happy to see the support that is due for the Lord and the fact that you care.

I will personally help JC-1 out with anything I can regarding hunting information and knowledge I hope you all will as well.

KEEP HUNTING THE GREAT OUTDOORS & GOD ALIVE, PASS IT ON!
