Listen to this! My brother shot a buck this weekend and right after the deer fell a big tom bobcat came out of the woods and jumped on the deer. He got shot also. That would make a good mount. The deer had no idea the cat was around. They all live in the same woods. Sure deer will probably avoid big cats, but they won't run the deer out of their territory.

If we are talking about the big tan looking cougar cats then ur chances are blown cougars will chase all the deer out of property that is 320 acres my friend has experienced that this season the cougar ran out of food and ventured on to find a different area.

I often hang my treestand 100 yards from my back door. I have had both of my old ladies cats follow me down and sit under my tree. Sometimes deer flat out ignore them, other times they snort, stomp towards them. Once i saw this doe just kind of jumping and kicking at something. I'm thinking what the he!! is that deer doing, next thing i see is a white and orange flash running towards the house. The doe didnt like that cat that day.

I think deer are use to all the little woods creatures cats, squirrels, foxes Birds etc. when they are around making noise I think the deer feel safer and they cover up your movements / noise a bit. Just another theory. I hate the noise the squirrels make and they do seem to be gone when the deer show up. A lot of times when the woods is being noisy it gets quiet when the deer arrive so use the silence as a clue to look around Mr buck is here.

If it is a common cat this will in no way effect your hunting. But, man what a sight to crack a shot right behind it, you will never see that cat in your area again<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Cats are predators, deer fear their scent, especially their urine. You will never hear of cat urine used as a cover scent.
Of course, the next question is--How BIG is that cat?
