I know a group of guys that go out hunting every year that say, the night before they go out, they hang their clothes next to the camp fire and let the smoke go into their clothes. Everyone knows the camp fire smell kills everything for scent. They all said they see deer every year when they are up in the stand. I have yet seen them bring a deer home yet , but wouldnt the deer be alarmed of the campfire smell? There are a lot of brush fires that people burn on there land all the time where I am at, but I wonder if the deer would be alarmed? What do you think?

The smell of smoke doesn't kill any other smells. But, it might cover up other scents. When Iam doing seminars I tell guys to do it when they hunt out west when there are forest fires. But, when I hunt whitetails, I would rather keep my clothes scentless, unless there is smoke in the air when I hunt. I often throw dirt or vegetation from the area I hunt into my clothes bag, so the clothes and boots smell like the area. I don't care if the clothes are dirty, as long as they don't smell like un-natural odors, and do smell like the area. If you have more or specific questions post a new question here addressed to T.R. or e-mail me.

Indians used to put wild sage on top of a small fire. They then covered themselves in the smoke. The stated purpose was to cover themselves with the smoke scent.
