Did I blow any future chances on getting this buck?

Did I blow any future chances on getting this buck?
Well, today was a pretty good day in the woods overall. About an hour or less in my stand I hear some deer restling around. A few seconds later, I can see them and they are running all over the place. They eventually settle down and 3 of them come right near me (about 15-20 yds). I decided not to shoot any of them(even though I haven't killed a thing yet)since I really want a buck. About an hour and a half later I pull out the can hit it 2 times. A few seconds later something runs down the trail behind me. I figure great, I spooked them again. Well, about 30 seconds later I hear some foot steps. I turn around and here comes a deer down the trail. At first I didn't realize it was a buck. I should have stood up immediately, but I didn't. A few steps later I realize this is a shooter buck! My first one I have ever seen in the woods He keeps on the trail which is pretty heavly wooded. I was affraid to move thinking he might see me. He just kept walking so I grunted once and he stopped....right behind some trees. I could barely see his head. He stood there for about 2 minutes and finally walked off. I grunted again, but he kept going. Since that didn't work I pulled out the lil' can and tried that, but that didn't work either. After my long story my question is....did my grunting and using the can scare him off, or do you think I can get another chance at him on that trail again?

How close was he when you grunted at him? If he was fairly close he was standing there looking for the "deer" that made the noise. When he saw nothing he probably knew something wasn't right and decided to get out of Dodge. I try not to call to deer when they are within bow range unless I have a decoy out or it is very thick cover. When deer don't see the source of the sound they tend to get a little nervous. Grunting at them to stop them for a shot is the exception though. As for future encounters I would not give up hope. He may be a little wiser next time so try a doe decoy to see if that works.Keep using the can call. Rut must be kicking in Alabama.

I think your good as long as he didnt blow up out of the area. he probally didnt see the source that grunted and didnt come in to ya. Im surprised he didnt bust ya when you hit the call the second time. Maybe consider moving stand somewhere along his trail with the wind in your favor. I wish ya luck.
