What is the longest shot that you would feel comfortable taking in the field at game?

i said 300-400 yards because i practice at longer distances and have taken game at these distances. i am sure i could "stretch" further shots but i wouldn't feel comfortable due to the margin oferror being so little. my thought is, why wound a deer with a poor shot if you don't have to.

There was an earlier thread on this and all but one participant clamied that most hunters should not shoot at the ranges they sometimes do. Exept themselves.

i must have missed that thread. i say shoot at the distance your comfortable with. just practice at that distance so you're not "spray'n and pray'n". i'm not going to comment on others responses because i don't know what their shooting ability is, some people shoot better than others. i am also not going to condone someone shooting beyond their ability.

I was about to say how happy I am too see that most people keep it under 200yrds (like me), but then I realized there are only 5 responses, not exactly a scientific poll.

I will not shoot at an animal outside 250 to 300 yards ...just do not feel comfortable ...

I like the animals to be close to assure a good hit, that is just what I have practiced though...

I prefer to be as close as possible,but I do practise regularly out to 500 yards and under ideal circumstamces,I will shoot that far.My longest kill to date was measured at 480yards with my laser rangefinder ,and I have made several other kills at over 400 yards.

For me I would push it to 125 yards. I only hunt with a muzzleloader with no scope. I like the iron sights.

I don't see the the need nor the desire to shoot across 3 football fields! I like to get as close as possible and have a sure clean kill!
