RE: .243 for whitetail
My friends brother,(who gets ragged on alot for his 243), just killed an 200+ pound buck with one at 125 yards. The deer presented him with a head on shot for a few seconds, he waited until it turned broadside, and BINGO one dead rack buck. His brother(my friend) always tells him "you are going to lose one one day with that pea shooter", but he hasn't yet, and he has killed a number of hefty bucks with it

.243 is an awsome gun. I would use the win. silver ballistic tip. its an extremly accurate and powerful bullet. I shot a deer with mine and im being dead serious when i pulled the skin off it looked like every thing just exploded in the deer.

25 years shooting the .243, and at least 50 deer with it, and only one made it past 50 yds. Big hogs with complete pass throughs at 200+ yds.
It's my go to rifle. I prefer hornady factory ammo but the federal comes in a close 2'nd. Dont know what else to say, it's a little devestating on the meat though, the only other gun that I have seen leave this kind of destruction is the 7 mag.

I've shot a 243 since I was about 15. Before that a 6mm. I made a trade with daddy and believe it or not about the smartist move I've made in a while. I recently bought a 243 WSSM. I will say this" WSSM" don't quit your day job! 243 WIN is a much more brilliant gun.

yes it will pass through and give great blood trails.my wife and I shoot the 243.she shoots the Winchester PSP 100 grain bullet.I shoot the Winchester PSP 80 grain. they both do a great job of pas thyr and blood trails.that is the only cal gun we use and have for the past 25 years or so. many ,many ,many deer has fallen from the two guns.
she has only have one we didn't get,(bad hit,she shot low and hit the leg at the knee)we saw it runoff and she couldn't get another shot.
I had one about 20 years ago that I lost, don't know where I hit,we trailed him for several hrs. saw hin several times(couldn't shoot him because of where we were).
two in 25 years is not to bad.
as for the cal. and bullet ; it is great little weapon.I don't think you will be disappointed.
