RE: Best caliber for under 100 yards ?
personally i like the 45-70 for shorter range work. and if you want you can get in in a lever action again, or single shot for that matter. also a lever action in .44mag, .45colt, or the ruger deerfield semi auto carbine in .44mag.
if you are looking for a bolt action the, 7mm-08 or the .243win are good choices. i also like the .308 due to cheap military surplus ammo that can be used for plinking at an affordable price

you can never have too many guns

I use and like the 270 with 150 grain winchester Model 70. the 270 shoots flatin case you do wind up with a longer shot. You never know
nice to know where to aim for sure if the occasion arises. With the 270 the bullet goes where the cross hairs point. As the guy above says it the aiming that counts. Shoot streight Striper Phil

308,30.06,300 win mag , 270,243 or 30.30 are only as good as the man holding the gun, shot placement is everything.

Last i checked shot placement was everything with any gun. My vote is for the .270 It has one of the flattest trajectories of any of those guns and the power to do any deer hunting. If you wanted to hunt something bigger than deer, id suggest the .30-06
