It should be fine.
Shoot placement is the key.

With good shoot placement a 22 long rifle will take deer.

I live and hunt in Alabama ...our deer here are somewhat small body wise ... average buck will weigh 150 to 175lbs .... that 280 will do the job ...

thanks guys, my uncle just killed a 150 pound buck down here in south florida, and that is huge foe here. thats one of the biggest bucks ever killed on the property. just didn't know how much bigger bama deer were.
