most scents seem to be geared toward rutting deer, but what if you're in an area where the rut has not started? I've found an area with a lot of deer sign, but there are no scrapes or rubs to indicate the rut. Are there any scents that will work pre or post rut? Maybe something that smells like something good to eat? vermont just outlawed baiting, but we're still allowed to use any scent we want.

before the rut i use just doe urine and dominant buck urine. i put the doe pee on my knee high rubber boots and soles. im using that more as a cover scent. but it works as a scent line too. hopefully a buck will lock on my trail and come see if the suposed doe is getting ready to be bred. once at stand location i put out 2-3 scent bombs of dominant buck urine. that way if a buck comes in he will come to try and find the intruder and present a shot.ive used this for 3 years now with great success. seems i always have deer within spitting distance if they come in. and there not alarmed either.

sounds like you need to scout more...those rubs and scrapes are out there......find a rub line......put tarsal gland on a few scent dispensers at different points along the rub line leading into your stand while also using a drag rag with estrous urine on it. Drag it right through the scrapes and pour a little the last scrape before your stand, then hang ONE scent dispenser with trophy buck urine. If that doesnt work and you are scent free ....quit hunting :O)
