Try some fine steel wool, ball of alum. foil or a drywall sanding block withsome type of lubricant such as: wd40, gun oil, veggie oil,etc and buff or sand the deposits out. Make sure to wipe clean and re-lubricate frequently.

Duke, I have a CutCO hunting knife thatmy wife bought
me in 1967 and it has spots on it. Those are blood
spots and would have to be buffed out with Jewlers
Rouge. The blood etches the metal.

Wasn't there a product on the market that you could just sit the knife into (liquid) and the product did the work for you? Granted if there are actual gouges in the metal then a brillo pad would be needed.
