Its part of Fire Island, which ispretty large. The deer are not like that in every town.

Nothing wrong with that buck. Look at all the pictures, all the deer on the island look that. Most people aren't used to seeing deer up close like that in the summer, and on a beach.
The people on the island would not tolerate an outbreak of any disease like the mange. Too many wild creatures and human and pets living close together.

Summer coat typical on all deer. They grow new antlers every year too! Sorry, I had to try to be funny. You wouldn't believe how many people don't know that though!
