This spot is probably right in your backyard, but we are also eyeballing the area that forms a square from decker creek to the selway west/east, and from the clearwater down to swiftwater rd(fr 470) north/south. Any knowledge of that area? Is that swiftwater rd open during the hunting season. In that area
I figure if we do kill, we would only have to drag about two miles or so either up to swiftwater rd, or down to the highway,I can live with that.

there's a spoting goods store in pierce that has alot of big wt. in it .They said most where killed just north of town on paper co. land ;potlach I think it was; take a quad up to shanghigh pass and camp with truck hunt the cut offs. I hunted there in late sept. the locals said to come back in nov. and travel the logging roads rattling and calling. They said you can see them that way;any other time the large bucks will not expose them selfs.Take plenty of gas the quad trails are endless.Good luck from a Pa. hunter who's been there.

The Swiftwater Road will be open, barring any big snow storms. The country is rather steep , but there are a few clearcuts up the Swiftwater Rd. I would look farther up the Selway (towards the end of the road) and hunting from the main road up., late in the season.

Thanks for the info kamiahkid. We have got a few good places to start scouting around while we are there in august. I think we will just have to get there and look around to find our spot. One more question, what works up there? Hunting scrapes, tree stand and rattle and call, spot and stalk? What would you all recommend?

That will all work depending on what time of the season your hunting. Usually the later in the season the better, as the rut is in full swing, plus with some mtn snow storms the lower country will get more and more deer as they migrate in from the higher areas. Good Luck!
