Calhunter, do you know of any public land areas near El Dorado County that contain turkey, and in which you don't want to hunt. I don't want to crowd you but am looking for turkey spots to bowhunt. I've been working pretty hard to find private land around Lake Comanche but its easier said than done (darn). An area near the lake that I cut wood on (about 10 years ago)for the owner has been sold (and the new owners say no), and that place if full of turkeys. Double darn. I was hoping to get something out of all the work I did for that old guy.
It won't be much longer and the trout season will open up too!

You know Mattito, I haven't been scouting the public land much because I've been getting invites on private land. I can tell you that any BLM land near Folsom Lake should have turkeys since that was a test release area for DFG many years ago. Also, if you can find any land out towards Cool, CA (up by Georgetown), there are turkeys up there. I haven't been working any of the public land beats for a while so I'm out of touch on those. I guess it's time to work nearer the forest for a shift change again. You'd be amazed how much you see and hear from people when you're patrolling their neighborhoods.

OK, I'm sending you my email address because thats just type of thing I'm looking for. However it is during turkey season<img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>. Thanks for the tips guys on the public land. It sounds like you might be in the know so I will ask this silly question. Is there a website or location that we could go to for information on the BLM land within specific CA counties? You hear about the BLM but sometimes its a whisper, I'm not one for trespassing so I get nervous about such whispers.
Anybody ever hunt the special big game hunts? As in the elk hunts in the park systems?

I know you can get BLM maps from the BLM department that are supposed to show BLM properties in different counties. They'll let you look at the maps first to see if it's what you want before you ahve to pay for it. There are also computer programs out there which show public land but those can be kinda pricey.

Born to hunt, forced to work.

I've been searching through the DFG site and have actually hunted the Grizzly Island Reserve before. It actually seemed dangerous at the time as their were a lot of people out and about, and not all of them were as safety conscious as we would like them to be. The BLM seems to have little pockets of land hidden, that might not see as much activity as the big reserves. I always love talking to neighbors who say &quot;oh yeah, I think the BLM has 80 acres over that next hill&quot;.
