Hello. I am new to Utah, moving from Louisiana, and have a question or two about hunting Muleys and Elk. I haven't hunted them before, but have drawn a Cow Elk Tag for South Slope/West Yellowstone (Nov.-Dec.) and bought a Deer Tag for the NorthEast area. Anyone have any pointers as to where to go (Generally or Specifically) or what the main differences are going to be to hunt a Muley vs. whitetail? I have found a guy to go with who is a transplant to UT as well, from WY, but would like a perspective from someone local. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

muleys are easier to hunt they are not nearly as affraid as whitetails are of people. you can walk up on one within 20 feet and if you just stand there they will just stand there looking back at you. you may notice that about most animals here in the west they are less weary of humans. I used to live in missouri so I am very used to hunting whitetails I have not hunted mule deer yet but I have encountered many walking through the woods.

I would post your question on our Utah DWR forum. I don't hunt those areas, I like the south east myself. And even though the game in some places out west is less wary, you will find that in Utah, most bucks are super skittish, the elk aren't that bad though.

I would ask under biggame.
