Colockum Elk Trouble

I was fortunate enough to get drawn for a cow permit in the Malaga unit. Only a portion of the unit is up in the Colockum and as far as I can tell there aren't a huge number of animals in there. Well, I've hunted pretty hard for 13 days to try and fill this damn cow tag and am approaching near baldness from pulling my hair out.
Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Is it any better down low in Stemilt? I have spent the majority of my time lately as high up as the GMU goes, right up where Jumpoff and Shaler Rd. meets. I know there are elk in that area but just can't seem to get them to show themselves. I did spend some time off Kingsbury, Moses Carr and Ingersol but didn't see anything at all.
One last thing, just so nobody gets the idea that I'm a road hunter, I'm regularly logging several miles on foot each day in some pretty steep thick crap. I feel like I'm putting in the time and getting far off the roads, just not in the right place.
Thanks in advance for the help.

About 30 years experience over there says your doin' the right things, can I maybe suggest the term- "apple orchards" if you canfind open land near them. I would also bet that most poacing on the Colockum goes on in this area............Ag. workers!!

Kramer, Summit has the right idea. Also you might check with some of the orchards in the ara some will give you permission to hunt behind their places because of the problems they have with elk. Good luck
