Wyoming Elk area 64
Hey everybody I drew an elk tag in area 64 (the type 2 license which opens November 1) and was wondering if anyone has hunted here or knows much about the area. I know some about the area, but was looking for a little more in depth knowledge such as in the LU ranch any good? There is a lot of BLM land in the eastern part of the area, how's the elk and deer hunting in that part? Is the forest section worth a look? I have heard I should hold out for a 300 point bull, any one have a different opinion? Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

338 - I believe a type 2 Elk tag is for "any antlerless elk" but I haven't a clue what the out of state tag regs read. I'd check on this as shooting a "300" point bull would cause you grief and limit your chance for a return visit for a couple years.
If indeed it is for Bull Elk or Any Elk, and you have a week or two to hunt holding out for a biggee would be acceptable. Provided you can find a lesser sized Bull when push comes to shove.
Welcome to Wyo when you get here, and if you do your job you will succeed. Good luck.

Poluke,
Most type 2 licenses are cows, but area 64 has two seasons plus additional cow/calf licenses (type 6 licenses) and the type 2 license is the second season and is any elk. I actually don't know much about area 64 other than it is supposed to be pretty decent and the time frame worked well for me. I was hoping someone would have hunted that area recently and have some suggestions for me.

If you hunt on the LU be sure to sign up for the "Absorka Front" hunter management unit. All of the ranch and most of the surrounding goverment land is in the hunter management area.
We were moose hunting there last year and saw a 380 bull (elk) shot right across the creek from where we were hunting.
