Jim, I' ll know more about what the family is up to when I get back around the 13th of November. There' s a cool little cafe up the street called Black Bear Diner, but it' s a good haul from Nellis. We are on the south west side of town, Nellis is on the north east side I think. Took us over half an hour to get there last time, traffic can be something else! You gonna have a car while you' re down here?
Hopefully I' ll have a couple additions to the trophy book too, with this big old Colorado bull my cousin is talking about.
I' m going for the beginners luck approach on this hunt.
Nimrod, when do you head off the slope? Are you going to be up the weekend of the 8th and 9th?

Dan, I figured it' ll be another fun year of protecting what we have. Hopefully groups like the ABA will put in proposals to help expand what we have so we can go on the offensive a little more rather than just being defensive.
I know the arrow weights are coming up, and I' m sure we' ll have to save our bear baiting again.
By the looks of my schedule, I won' t make the meetings this year, but I plan to write in again, if that does any good.

ABM / VBM - Good luck with the old .30-06 - hope you get to your downed animal first!
Many years back I wondered if I was going to have to slug it out with another hunter who tried to claim a cow elk I dispatched in Washington. It turned into quite a footrace - too bad someone couldn' t have gotten it on video. Luckily for me I was headed downhill and he got hung up in some blowdowns. He still tried to claim it was his shot that killed her, even though the exit wound was on the wrong side for where he was positioned. LMAO
NIM - Today the missus and I hiked up the Perseverence Trail in Gold Creek Basin behind town, the excuse being that I had to start breaking-in a pair of hunting boots. We got to watch the visible goat population through our binocs. They were out lounging in the sun. When I picked out 2 really nice-sized billys, I was wishing I had taken my 20-60X spotting scope! BTW, the boots worked fine and didn' t smash up my toes coming down steep inclines - which I take as a good sign.

Might be a reg tag left in the old stomping grounds nimrod. Looks like SEAK and I will be up north at the same time on that weekend, so I might talk him into a drive over so we can get some autographs and watch the actor at his best.
Couple more days and I' m off to Colorado. They took a 5X6, another bull and a cow out of there last weekend, and great reports for the animals, so looks like we' ll be getting in the action good. Can' t wait! Parking the trucks at 9500 feet and working up from there, yipee. 2 mile hike to camp, then elk all over from there... I think I' ll focus on the elk closer to the truck.
Who says I' m not in shape... round is a shape, isn' t it?

VBM & Nim - So. . .if I was in the market for amodern beginner bow, what would you suggest? Remember, I' m a runty little guy that hasn' t strung a bow since my 50# Fred Bear 2-piece recurve from back in the late ' 60s. Its going to be a long, dark winter and I am one project short.
My plan is to give it a try and see how I like it - I know it would extend my Fall hunting seasons down south. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Nim--some guys across the hall at work went to Petersburg last weekend to hunt goats, and I think each of the four in the party took one...don' t have many more details, but it sounds like they had a great time.
Phish--I need to practice this winter too--want to take the IBEP course. They had one last weekend, but I had to go to California to my grandpa' s 90th birthday and family reunion, but I did hear that they should have qualified 5 more instructors, so hopefully, I' ll be able to get class under my belt!
VBM--Hi!
