Default Weather around Gunnison Co. & Elk hunt

Hello
I am planning on going to Co.for my first elk huntin Co,we are going around Gunnison ( do not know exact location right now ) with all the bad weather there now would that be reason to cancel trip for this year ??I know they are feeding elk and there is a possibilty of some dying off.

I doubt if the die off will be so great that cancelling your trip would be necassary. The numbers of elk are high in that region.
The weather in theGunnison valley can vary greatly in the fall period from short sleeveweather to blizzard weather. Be prepared for everything.

You should be fine. The snow and cold has a greater impact on the deer than the elk. The elk will gravitate to the cattle feeding operations. The problem with deer, they can't benifit form hay they need a special feed which is occuring. The weather in the past few weeks is improving.

I wouldn't cancel it. What Rbullom said is true. They will literally raid the cattle ranchers hay reserves. And alot of time they feed them cause its cheaper than paying the ranchers for the damage to the hay. Not to mention elk are alot more resistant to the cold/snow. They seem to migrate more than deer will to find food in severe winters.
