I've been invited to hunt Muleys up in NW Montana around Whitefish. Just curious if anyone has ever hunted that area and what is the country like or what one can expect for animals. I've been going over topo maps and elevation isn't very high but the pictures I've found show alot of thick stuff. I've hunted eastern MT two different years and am looking forward to something different.

Howdy Ironranger! I'm a newbie on here and just starting to "feel" my way around. I live in S.W.Mt..Near Three Forks. The area you are asking about is in the Flathead National Forest up next to Glacier National Park. I've never hunted that area. I've heard it's a good one though. The foot hills should befairly easy to hunt if your in shape. The further East you go the steeper the terrain. If you want more info. on that specific area try contacting Montana's Fish Wildlife and Parks at the Region 1 office in Kalispell. Their number is 406-752-5501. They should be ableanswer all your questions. For general info. you can try their web site at fwp.mt.gov .
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
