Default This years hunting.

Been deer hunting quite a bit this season and have not seen a singal buck. Man o man is it fraustrating. I'm hunting the lewis unit by ST. Helens, it's about a half mile walkin to this area I hunt. It dosen't get used much do to the walk in part. In fact I beleive I'm the only one that has been in there during the modern firearm season.
On opening morning I took a buddy up there to hunt with. Giving him direction on where to go an where I'll be we seperated. About ten minutes later I'm at my station and 3 deer cut in front of me. Couldn't really see cause it was a still a little to dark. But hell there going right down the middle to where my buddy was. So it's all good right??? WRONG!!! 20 mins later I see my buddy comming up the middle of this draw . The first word out of my mouth was what the hell are you doing?. He tells me he thought he'd try to drive the deer to me. There is no way in hell 1 person can drive deer in this area. Except out!!! Still a mazed at what he did I asked. What were the deer that were comming to you? Deer? what deer? You mean you didn't see thoughs deer comming right in to your lap. Oh that's right you were driving them to me, I said. Feeling this area is a bust now we left. But on the way out we had a good talk about his 1 man drive on opening day.lol The next day we tried the same area, but nothing. For several more days I'm hunting in there but not seeing any deer. Then I decide to move to a different part of the area. Bingo!!! A small herd of elk about a dozen all cows I beleive. Grinnining from ear to ear I started to scan the area when I see some more movement. It's a deer and I can't see what it is due to the brush and it'head being down. Then crack pop the elk start moveing and the deer lifts it's head. It has a mouth full of food and it's looking at the elk. Perfect!!! only one problem no lumber it's a doe. Not seeing anything else for awhile I leave, but stoked at what I seen. So now a few more days of hunting I seen another herd of elk. This time with a 3 or 4 pt bull. He wasn't to keen on staying to visit and left rather suddenly. lol. Elk season dosen't start for another week figures... All in all I'm starting to see several more animals just no bucks. Well tommorow is holloween the last day of the regular season. I hear strange things happen on that day. So maybe just maybe .

Good luck black lab - I wouldn't mind seeing an elk in the wild (never had) - I just trained my wife to grumble just a little about heading out for deer camp - next year I'll work on elk camp too. Turkey camp she never had a problem with - dunno. Anyhow, hope you tag one. Anything else, you know where to go for elk!

Sorry you guys didn't get anything, I saw 12 legal bucks, and nailed one of them, and saw a lot of does, plus I saw three elk, and two were taken. If you guys ever want to hunt the east-side let me know and I can tell you where to go

Robb92,

I like to hunt the east, but don't know where. I'm in the Seattle area, so don't know much about the east. Always wanted to hunt whitetails/mullies. I would appreciated if you can provide a start. I hunt deer during riffle and elk during archery. You can email me if you want. Thank you very much.
