Looking for a Mule Deer Hunt
Heys guys help me out with an affordable (if there is an affordable one) Mule Deer Hunt. I would love to go on my first Mule Deer Hunt with my new Allegiance, but its a bit expensive for a poor old cop. I've noticed that some Nebraska outfitters/ranch's are reasonable and tags aren't too high priced. I'm not looking for a trophy, just something respectable. Maybe you guys can steer me in the right dircetion as to where I should go and who I should go with. Thanks.

There's a guy in Craig, who goes by "Mule Deer Specialist" on the north american hunting club forum. His prices were cheap and he guarantees a shot at a 3 Pointer or your money back. I'd Google his name. If you can't find his info and are interested PM me and I'll get it for you.

How about a drop camp hunt...get packed in and dropped off, they will come back and get you usually in 4-10 days, you decide. price is usually $600-900.00, most of the outfitters here will supply tents, stoves, etc. the one we did we were allowed 150lbs of gear a piece. it was a great time, great experience, although no deer from our camp. bear in mind this was in wa. state, i would say look into idaho, montana, etc. in idaho you can buy over the counter tags, not sure about mt. don't come to washington to hunt mule deer, it's not worth thhe nr tag $$$. you can do a lot better in other western states.

How about a few more suggestions. A DIY would be okay also. Maybe just a place to stay and I could do the work myself. Nebraska or North and South Dakota would be nicesince they are over the counter. I'm open to any state and any ideas. Thanks.

I'm not sure about Nebraska but North and South Dakota are definetly not over the counter states. N Dakota is pretty darn tough for a non res to draw a mule deer tag. S Dakota does have unlimited archery tags, but you still need to apply for them.

Checking to see how you were wanting to hunt (bow, muzzle, rifle)? I hunt here in Colorado and if you wanted to hunt with me and my cousin we could work some thing out (RIFLE sesaon). You do still have time to get into the draw but there are other areas that have left-over tags that could get you a buck. If you ever wanted to get a trophy you should start collecting preference points. Jovan
