It is now not leagal for 2 reasons
1 all except Hevi shot stuff , it is made of LEAD . need to shoot non tox for water fowl.
2 There is a max pellet diamiter for water fowl hunting . I am not sure but either TT or F is the bigist pellet in diamiter that is legal.

Another thing there is not enough pellets in a load to fill in the pattern at longer ranges.
I know because I used to shoot 4-buck for yotes and had them run thru the pattern at 75+ yds and maybe only get a ass hit .

I know the farmers get so PO'd at the snow's for eating all the winter wheat. They go out with 000, and lie down and fire thru them. They take out 5 or 6 sometime. I have seen the snow destroy a crop in a week easy. On one side, I look down on it cause I hunt snows. On the other the guys have enough trouble making a living.

As far as pass shooting, could be dangerous. 00 pellet would travel much faster and come down much harder than T steel would.

The patterns needs at long range aren't there with the limited amount of pellets in the load. Not only that but it is absolutely ILLEGAL to use anything other than nontoxic for water fowl in VA. if you get caught with anything other than nontoxic while hunting water fowl i t is not only a virginia game law violation but a federal one as well because these are migratory birds and the seasons are set and regulated by the US Fish and wildlie service.

It is correct that buckshot is now illegal but when it was illegal 4 buck was the best killer for geese. It only took one pellet to bring a goose down and then it was time for the dog. I believe that TTT is the largest non-toxic size that you can use now days. I still use 4 buck on coyotes and fox. I use a patternmaster choke on my ten ga and just killed one coyote this morning at 83 paces. She went down in a heap and only kicked a couple times. I think that is proof in the pudding. At 50 yds I usually get about 85 to 90 percent pattern in a 30 in circle.

I believe that Remington is now making and selling non-toxic Hevi-Shot 00 buckshot. However, it would still be illegal in California since the maximum shot diameter for waterfowl hunting is T. I think you would get cited pretty quickly for firing buckshot at anything but a buck.

Illegal...

So no I haven't.

If you try it around here...it can land you more time in jail than killing someone.
