RE: G&H dekes, SBE gun
Call - I picked up a Quaker Boy double reed last year for 25 bucks and it is a pretty good call.
Gun - benelli Nova
Dekes - Anything made by Flambeau is good in my book.

DR-85, Flambeau, Win. SX2, or Extrema
Call-for a beginner Haydel's DR-85, once your competent with it, move in to single reed territory...
Deke's-most will work well, Flambeau's are fine by me...
Gun-I wouldn't trade an auto for anything, but that's me, I've had good experiences with both the Win. SX2 and the Beretta Extrema, if you are a little more budget minded you can't go wrong with a Rem. 870 or any of several pump guns...

Calls:Faulks,Haydel or Winglock all reasonably priced and do everything the calls costing 2-4 times as much.
Decoys : if you can't afford cork, go with herters. you get what you pay for when it comes to decoys. A dozen cork will out draw 3 dozen plastics.
Gun: what ever fits you and you shoot well

RE: Mallard Hunting Set
I would love to have an SBE but if you are just getting into Duck Hunting and budget is an issue I would go with a Remington 870.
Ruddyduck,
Do you really think cork decoys make that much of a difference? I have never hunted over cork so I have no idea. What do you think it is about cork decoys that make them so effective? Have you ever shot a full colored drake Ruddy before?

They ride better ,especially in rough water, and look more natural than anyother decoy in the water.
The down size is thier weight and exspense. Mine were [email protected] when almost the same money bought you a dozen plastic. I bought 4 dozen and in hind sight the best investment I've ever made.
To answer you second question yes, in 38+ years and 7 states I've bagged just about every duck available in the Atlantic Flyway in full mating plumage with the exception of that darn Ruddyduck. I've taken numerous ruddies but a male in full plumage has still eluded me.
