I shot heavyshot last year in a modified tube for steel or lead. I know that heavishot is supposed to deliver a tighter pattern than typical lead. I wonder why the heavishot choke tube is tighter constriction than a Full choke tube? Doesn't make sense.

I have been shooting and reloading Hevi shot for years . From what I have found by patterening different loads in my 870.
Standard Rem choke Improved skeet +.004 I think , = to a mod with lead ,use for decoying birds
IC = to a tight mod to improved mod , use for decoying birds and close pass shooting
Mod = to full or tighter depending on the load ,pass shooting
The short internal chokes don't patteren as well as extended choke tubes ,a slower constrection I think.
IMO never shoot water fowel with a full even if rated for Hevi shot , just to tight
I shoot a extended Improved skeet made by Briley for decoying birds and a Briley extended Light mod for pass shooting . This choke is good for 50+ yd ducks with 1 1/4 oz of 6 or 5 at 1550 fps and 70+ yds for geese with 1 3/8 oz of 2 at 1500 fps reloads .
Patteren your gun , I know Hevi shot is not cheap but every gun/choke is a little different and how else will you know how your gun /load /choke shoots.

No. For waterfowl hunters, where the shell usage is generally much higher than for turkey hunting, Remington recommends using chokes recommended for steel shot pellets, such as the skeet, improved cylinder, modified and full chokes labeled for steel.

For waterfoul I use the Remchokes extended ( modified ) that are marked for steel or lead for my 870 wingmaster. These chokes work great for waterfoul. I use this same choke for skeet (lead shot) and waterfoul (steel shot). These chokes are a little more money than steel only or lead only chokes but I don't have to keep changeing chokes every time I go to skeet shooting or out in the field duck/goose hunting, maybe im just lazy. Lead only or steel only chokes run about $15.00 each and the combination all in one steel/lead choke runs about $28.00 each. I just bought the remchoke FULL steel or lead for $32.00. I would rather carry 2 combination chokes around than 4 single ones.

Where do you buy your componets for hevishot reloading? How much does it cost per box to reload?

It looks pretty expensive to reload. It looks REALLY expensive to buy factory loads! Just curious about Hevi-shot. Seems to be getting more and more attention recently.

After doing the math, you might save 30% reloading hevishot. You can get the shot thru cabelas or midway usa. I shot steel for the past 2 years and decided, if your not bringing home the birds, and shooting 3 times as many shells trying, then the hevi is worth it.

i figured the same thing as far as shooting three times the shells, hevi shot and impact from kent really smack the geese.

I am sorry for the delay I had a computer crash . I get all my wads from Bucksrun , the data is from Reloaders Specality . I buy my shot form where ever I can get the best deal , this year 5 of us went together and bought 120 lb.
I have found that I save 30 - 50 % depending on the load , 30% on goose loads and 50% on 1 1/8 oz loads for ducks and upland.
