If heavyshot refers to lead I would go with #4. For steel shot go with #2 or #3. This would apply to both 2-3/4" or 3" shells. Hopefully your not shooting steel shot with a full choke barrel. It's not recomended.

O.K. guys here's the deal. I have a 2 3/4" Rem. 1100.
Should I keep it and shoot 2 3/4" Heavyshot or tungsten
(expensive) or should I buy an 11-87 (expensive) and
shoot 3" steel (relativly cheap)? Come on help me out!

Have you considered having the barrel of the Rem.1100 reworked to a modified choke from a gun smith?....The reason I'm asking is because they had band lead shot for hunting waterfowl in our province so we had to change our shot from lead to a non-toxic shot such as steel, tungsten or bismuth just to name a few. I had checked the price of shells other then steel and found to be to expensive as you mentioned so I had the choke and the forcing cone done on my Beretta for steel shot. I've used it for 2 years and have had no problems shooting steel.
