Default couple questions

Are their quail in iowa?

and question number two has anyone ever "stocked" their land with pheasant or quail? If so how do you do it?

I stocked quail in Western SD and they are doing well after 3 years. Things have to be just right and they will go. I set mine out at 8 weeks old when the weather was warm and about right.

Iowa small game Map

I guess the map on the link is what I was going by, I thought in past years there was a larger population of quail further north than the map shows, oh welll. I don't know why they wouldn't be farther north maybe weather, may be differant cover and land...got me!

where in Iowa do you live QTompkins2005?

I would have to suggest contacting your local DNR officer and see what he thinks about stocking an area. I would also go check the website www.qu.org This website is very informative about the habitat that quail need to survive and raise their young. I don't believe that it could be the weather because I live in Northeast Nebraska and we have quail, but not a large population. This year they really seemed to make a rebound compared to the last five years.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting
