I just found out that fallsville wildlife area were i go dove hunting every year is having a drawing for hunters!!!! I dont understand the purpose of this, can someone please explain why they do this so i can calm down and find the real meaning for the state of ohio to be doing this and making it a hassel to hunt on public property........what is this world coming too?

It's so that the hunter that are drawned can have the best hunt ,not having others setting up to close, not whorey about other hunters shooting at them .I live in ohio , some public duck hunting areas have been doing this for years .If it works like duck hunts ,You show up at a set time , fill out a hunter info card ,you are given a number ,they draw numbers to determins the "zone" draw order , pick your zone from those that are left and hunt .This draw system results in a better experince and more birds for most .For duck hunts there are zones for teams 2-3 hunters and single hunters. The areas that hold the draws are heavely hunted but you stll get good bird numbers

They do it a lot here in East TN for the first week or two of dove season. A lot of the fields here are leased from private individuals and only allow hunting on the first two saturdays of dove season. It's a big event here but i don't really like the idea of hunting with 100-150 other people. I know this sounds bad, but I also don't like the idea of hunting beside (or across the field from) someone's kid who is on their first ever dove hunt. The action can be fast...and that can mean dangerous. Good luck to all this season. Be safe, have fun, take only what you can eat...and keep your dogs watered.

I do know that since they opened the new South Unit to Fallsville, EVERYONE and their brother has been there! It COULD have been a better place to hunt if not so many people hunted all crazy and unorganized. People just show up and walk from one side to the other of the lot, scaring every wild living creature into West Virginia!
