Just curious what everybody's opinion is as to the best gun type, gauge, length ect... for clay sport shooting.

Any gun that fits you. Top shooters have shown that you need to find a gun that fits well in order to shoot at your best.

at my gun club most people use over and unders they have 30"barrel, the guys with pumps and semis use a 28"barrel just for the range that they get. some guys with there single barrel trap guns use 32"barrels. i shoot a 28" browning Bps pump gun. theres 1 guy at my club that uses a 20 guage but eveyone else shoot 12 gauge 7 1/2 or 8 shot. a 30" o/u is still shorter the a 28" pump gun. so that why most shot 30"o/u but 28" will get it done. not to many people shoot the 26"barrel for trap but i knew a guy that did and he would out shoot me but he switched to the 28 for shooting handicap

I shoot a 20 gauge at all three sports, I have a rem 11-87 auto 28 inch barrel. Ruger o/u 28 inch barrel and weatherby orion 26 inch barrel. And I'm a class A shooter You will find if you want a quick swinging gun the 26 is the fastest. But it is also the easiest to stop so you really have to work on your follow thru.

i shoot my sbe for all clay sports, and i use it for doves and ducks too. i just like the idea of using the same gun with the same choke and loads (for doves) that i use for clays. my lead goes out at 1400 fps and i also use 1550 steel for waterfowl.

a couple times i used slow 1200 fps lead, and it messed up my clay shooting for a few shots until i learned to aim in front more.
