Pheasants out our Montana kitchen window
#11
I know what you are at bearsgirl. I used to live in Great Falls and always saw pheasant in front yards and even on side of the roads (some alive, some dead) so i know that picture is real. Times like that I miss living there (and the snow) pretty good picture you took though.

Not to belittle your offer because I DO enjoy a good ID baked potato; but I think I did better trading oysters for pheasants LOL I understand what you mean about the farming in ID. I have friends that farm in the treasure valley. Their farming is so intense it leaves very little room for pheasants. Here is eastern MT our farming is small grain which pheasants do very well on. They use the small grains for a food source and the adjacent habitat for nesting and cover. Portions of Eastern MT are unique in raising pheasnts because here much of the land adjacent to the small grain fields isn't farmed because of its topography. Typically, 20% of the land is not farmed in this area which allows for natural bird habitat.

I like Great Falls! I wonder if the saying "once a MT kid--always a MT kid at heart" doesn't apply. We have a neighbor who moved back to the area after he retired because he had fond memories of life here before his family moved away when he was 5!!! I had the privilege of visiting CA recently and was totally in awe of the shear numbers of people!!!! I attached a picture of our area to remind you of the wide open spaces of MT.

Thank you for that picture. I really miss it out there despite some bad memories. I think one of these days i'll move back out there again but i'll want to move out there with a family that i hope to have someday. Have any more landscape pictures?
