Hello I am new to upland hunting, and am looking at getting some gear.
What kind of packs do you all use?
what should I look for on a pack to carry extra shells and birds in?
Thanks

rather than a pack get a good quality vest it will carry everything you need for uplands sheels, water bottle and your bagged birds. buy it a little big so you can go from warm early season to cold late season clothing over the same vest unless you want to buy more than one. I've had mine for 15 yrs and other than some fading it's wears like new

Welcome to the bird hunt addiction Bro. A good vest is as valuable as your dog or gun. Herter's and Dunn's catalogs is where I find most of my bird hunting gear. Both of these companys have websites too.

I use Filson's shooting bag.It is a high quality leather belt with 3 waxed cotton pockets sewn onto it.The 2 side pockets carry my shells,GPS,calls and gloves and the rear one is a nylon-lined game bag, which carries a water bottle.I use it from Sept.1st to Feb.28th.It is very durable, should last a life-time and cost about $100.

A good upland vest or jacket is just what you need. Do a search on Ebay under name brands like Filson, Columbia or others. When you do a search look up in Completed Auctions this will give you an idea what they are going for and how much you should bid. I picked up a Columbia Strap bird vest for around $20.00 it was brand new. I have also gotten a Columbia Ptarmigan Parka and Goretex
bird hunting pants for around 50% of the normal Retail.

I like the 1/2vest for hunting in any temp, just wear what I need and through the vest around my waist. If I need to carry a lot, like I do dove hunting, I just add a pair of suspenders(blaze), and make it into a strap vest.........can find them anyplace from Wallyworld to Filson's--got mine at Cabela's.
