RE: day packs
I use a crooked horn now for about 5 years and love it. Been on 3 elk trips and countless whitetails. Its the type that you can flip up an extra compartment when needed or let flap down when not in use. The pack has really held up well.

Try the badlands 2200 or the superday pack. The 2200 is an internal frame pack, use it elk hunting and I use the superday pack for deer hunting. www.badlandspacks.com

RE: day packs
I have a Crooked Horn ' guide' pack. it has a seperate waterproof compartment and has a ton of room.
I am starting to video my hunts so the waterproof section is awesome for the camera.
They are expensive, but worth the money. I think they would be really good on an elk hunt. Hopefully I will get to try someday.
