bl|nk's right, they're predicting the most birds we've had in 50 years for this year. You shouldn't have much trouble no matter where you go. Good luck!

boy ,i am drooling..
our pheasant season opens tommorrow here in pa.
in clinton county, they stocked birds today so fox/coyotes/hawks/eagles/owls/fischers/bobcat/cougars/housecats dont eat them before we can hunt them..
they stocked around 30 birds for us here on sgl i hunt..

there will be close to100 hunters after those birds on sat.

you need to come to pa. to hunt, best hunting in world.

hunting released birds and hunting wild birds are two different experiences though. Come outto SD and hunt some pheasants. but I'll forewarn ya, you might want to move out here once you've done it

Okay, I have one more question. I have been talking to many people about this trip. I here a lot of bad things about Mitchell. Why is that? Am I missing something? I know Walk In is better in other areas but it seems that there is plenty of other opportunites in surrounding, near by, areas. Any thoughts?

well, i got 2 cock birds on sat and 1 hen and cock bird today.

we feel they stocked around 15 birds not 30 as isaid.

i was about only one that got birds, only 6 others were shot out of about 70 people or so.
today i was only hunter there,only 1..
that was only 2 birds i saw..

yes, if it was not so expensive to go, i would be there in minute..

is there a difference between public/privateland ?
if so, why..

might sound like dumb question because deer hunting here in pa is great on privateland but awful on publicland..

Yep, you need permission to hunt private and public land is open to all. Depending on where you are, public can be as good.

one draw back to an area like Mitchell might just be the number of hunters due to it being in an area right around a larger town like Mitchell, and having a cabelas there. Im not saying there isn't going to be a lot of hunting pressure in other areas, there will be, there just might be more around bigger towns like that that can hold a larger number of hunters.

That is exactly Mitchell's problem. It's public land is hit hard during the opening few weeks. Later season it's great. The problem with private hunting in South Dakota is that pheasants have turned into such a cash crop that hunting private land seems to become harder and harder without a wallet full of cash.

I love hunting public. It's always just felt more sporting.
