RE: First Day Pheasants...
Seems like more land in the midwest is being either developed or leased out but not much we can do about it. I'm just enjoying it as I can get it. Went out Monday to Iowa and brought home two roosters. Wiley got up a third about 5 feet from me and I missed at the end of the day. Don't know how I managed that. Here is pic...
Then Tuesday morning me and Wiley headed about 2 miles from home to my girlfriend's sisters' farm and he flushed two hens and 3 roosters in a short walk. I missed the first, couldn't get a shot at the 2nd, and he presented me this one on the third. Really having fun out there this fall...

RE: First Day Pheasants...
looks like you are having great time..nice looking dog also..
i was out yesterday and flushed 7 grouse and 5 woodcock..
i dont kill woodcock and all were real close shots,i shoot over their heads at times so my dog thinks i am hunting..
as for grouse, pheasants are not fun to hunt here with all hunters after a few birds..
grouse are real hard to get now with leaves off..they run then flush 50 to 60 yds out in front of you..new trick they are doing is sitting in trees now, i wont shoot one in a tree..
we are having a lot of fun ..i read interesting article on using low brass on pheasants over the high brass or heavy charges..they said that in 12 ga you should use lighter load charge as bb dont get deformed and group better..really changed my view on the bigger charge being better, its not according to what i read..
