gun for bird hunting

RE: gun for bird hunting
Either the Mossberg or 870 will probably last a lifetime, but both are clunky. The Mossberg 835 is a 3 1/2 inch mag so the action is extremely long and if you short-stroke it, you might not get a shell ejected. I don't think either of these guns handle particulary well.
I'd stay with a 12 in your situation. I'd look at a Beretta AL391 or a good used AL390. Both are rock-solid, handle well and have stocks that are ajustable with shims.
I think an o/u would be the ideal gun because you could shoot two chokes like IC/mod and have a little more choke for a second shot. You didn't say what you want to spend, but there are bargains on used o/u's out there if you don't want to pay new prices.

RE: gun for bird hunting
go to a gun shop and look atused guns. properly cared for used guns will last you the rest of your life. you will have to decide on what you're willing to spend. just remember the game you hunt doesnt care what your gun cost you. that said,a quality gun is much more pleasurable to use.a good 12 guage is the best all around size for any type of bird hunting regardless of type.
