Early Bird!
Been about 10 years ago but I was set-up on a gobbler that was gobbling his head off.I was pretty excited about my position on the bird because there was a small opening about 60 yards below me where i just knew he was gonna pitch into out of the roost.I sat there listening to him gobble as it was still to dark to see when all the sudden I thought I heard wings beating as if a bird flew out into that opening.I strained to see movement in the opening and saw a black blob in the middle of it.I knew immediately it was that darn bird in strut.Instead being patient letting it get lighter I made the mistake of calling to this bird.He strutted his way right over to me to within about 15 yards and for the life of me as I looked down my gun barrel all I could see was nothing but darkness.I could just see his white cap when I took my cheek off my gun but when I put my head back down to look down my gun I saw black. He finally turned around and headed back to that opening where he strutted around till i could see him well and then walked off.I
called and set-up on him a few more times that morning to no avail, and just kept shaking my head so close yet so far!Have you ever had one come in to early that you could'nt hardly see him?I had a trio of gobblers do this to me on a videoing trip too!Maybe I should get up later!!!NOT!!!!
