Custom Slate/Glass....(2nd overall)
This is the Second complete call I have made.
(to see the first...check this out... "First Custom Call Attempt...")
This one I made radically different, and I believe it came out 100% better. I now have the use of a Jigsaw and a Router, not to mention some prime hard curly maple
Thanks goes out to slee for the advice and for the help deciding what i wanted.
I opted for the Slate over Glass because it gives a real raspy sound to the call as opposed to my first call which was a straight slate. This one is definitely louder and has that characteristic rasp to it. Next time, Im making a smaller one though...sound is still to bellowy.
Here are the pics...
glue on the notched edges for the glass (to create sound ports, used the router)
Glass in there now (see reflection)
Another shot of the glass, but here you can see the glue for the Slate
Finished call - front with some wood burning in it...
Back of the call...(used a Soldering Iron to burn the wood)
Overall, I think it came out good...the grain lines are not nearly as visible as I had hoped, but thats alright...next call is going to be a Glass over wood I believe...Stay Tuned.

RE: Custom Slate/Glass....(2nd overall)
Glad to hear I was of some help. Like I told you in the PMs, each call is a different animal. Keep playing with them until you get what you want. One thing I didn't tell you, try every striker you can get your hands on. If it sounds pretty good with just about any striker, it'll sound awesome if you match it with the perfect one. Make sure you try carbon and acrylic strikers on them too. Let me know if I can be of more help.
