Slate Call
#1
Dear hunters,
I need some imformation on slate calls. The crystal calls need to be roughed up with sandpaper before use, Does anyone know if the slate calls need to be roughed up before use? Slate is very inexpensive at our local aquarium store. 2.00 a pound..I believe I could build my own. I saw some pictures of them on ebay and one of them appeared to have come with a piece of abrasive cloth.
Thanks,
Chuck

yes they do.......even more then glass or crystal....i use a scotch brite pad for mine......slate will soak up oil ect from your hand like nothing else.....youll see it turn darker...but you hit it with the scotch brite and itll play again.....

Thanks I just made a nice slate call. Slate sands very easy and cheap yo buy. I set it in a piece of pine with a router but I think walnut would do better.
Deeper tone than the crystals.
