I posted a similar question a week and a half ago and only got 4 responses. Funny how that works.......my favorite call is the limbhanger by primos, but I may have to change that opinion. I just recieved my order of cannon country calls, and the DOA sounds sooooooo sweeeet!!

Man, I've wasted so much money on mouthcalls, and never find one I like... It gets frustrating.
Mouthcalls aren't exactly something that you can give to your buddies or re-sale either... No way to try b4 you buy.

i like blodgetts they seem to work pretty good I also recently bought a wood wise one that is very loud and is great for cutting and loud yelps. I think the smaller companies make better calls from what I've seen. Primos,H.S.,Knight and Hale,Quaker boy etc etc are all good but not as good as the smaller companies but you will pay more for the better ones.

I like:
Knight & Hale #143
MADD high-frequency (any)
Primos True Double II, but NOT the new Boss Hogg!! Just got it, think it is "weak" or "lame", too much "undercarry".
I'll bet I've tried at least 100 different diaphragms over the years, and most of them sound the same, to me. I like the K&H #143 because it gives a second tone/pitch and I can get a wide range of tonal variety from it, I like the MADD high-frequencies because they are higher pitched, which sounds (to me) more like all the hens I hear in the woods. I like the Primos II because it is sooooo easy, a good all-round call.
I tried the trough-tones (tone-troughs??) and Primos palate dealie, but they add nothing/are unnecessary, to me (but I acknowledge they may be really great for others).
I have some others in my collection I use for special purposes, like I have a call I use for nasally soft tree yelps, a different call I use for kee kees & kee kee runs (which is a very tight single reed) and a Pittman (rubber, not latex??) I occasionally use for cutting, but I don't know the call #s or even, for some of them, the manufacturer, any more.
I HAVE NOT experienced significant variation from call to call within a particular item. In other words, ALL the K & H #143s I've purchased sound VERY MUCH alike, etc.
My question to you guys:
How many of you can make your diaphragm sound like different turkeys, based on where you put it/place your tongue/which side of the reed(s) (center/left/right, not up or down) you use?? I only became aware you could do that 2-3, maybe 4 years ago. I like it!!!
Only (about) 70 days till turkey time!!!

SD,I agree that not only KH but I believe you can catergorize them along with many other brands sounding much the same!# of reeds and thickness of those reeds is whats going to change the tone for the most part!I can take a simple clear toned double reed and change pitch with it by adding tongue pressure! You can very the tone this way with most diaphragms but holding that particular pitch can be difficult with many! For me personally I like a call I can high ball those long distant or redhot gobblers with to than being able to seductively persuade him to come give me a close visit with some sweet soft stuff!!!

Hooks calls. Best and most consistent quality I've found.

Try the Phantom. I like all their triple reeds and the four reed too!
Those Sassy Gal series are fantastic!
