Taking a turkey with a bow requires extreme accuracy, patience, and lots of practice. I hope you are saying you shot at and missed 12 birds, not injured 12 birds. If it's missed you need more practice. Are you using a blind,it helps. Large diameter heads, close shots, good calling, good camo---blind,tons of patience. If it's injured, please take up golf, chess or knitting as a hobby

Have you hit 12? What kind of broadheads are you using? How far are the shots? What are you aiming for? Need some more info to help you our. NC hunter gave some good advice.

To hunt turkeys with a bow I would suggest a good ground blind like a Double Bull, use a good mechanical broadhead with a really BIG cutting diamter, and to hold your shots till they get within 20 yards or less. You either want to shoot them in the head (harder shot), right in the top of the thighs, dead center through the wings, or you can shoot them in full strut right up the center when they turn their back to you. Decoys can prove to be usefull as well. You really want a big cutting diamter broadhead that will rock them hard. You can also team up a good regular broadhead with a Muzzy grasshopper or even a large washer between the broadhead & shaft - you can even do this with a mechanical if you choose. The main point is to provide as much cut & shock as you can in a way that puts the bird down fast and/or prevents it from getting away before it dies.

I agree with the last post, I have hunted that way for almost ten turkey seasons with only one kill !
I took head shots for to long then gave in @ 4 yards, three birds for 30 minuets I could not let them get away...
I evolved w/no blind a first, then making my own w/dome tents to a double bull. No better way to hunt period!
I never get wet or cold & can do almost anything while inside, now all I need is a motion sensor to wake me up when a bird comes in silent...

You want to get close to turkeys. Get a Double Bull! These blinds are more expensive but they are the ticket for killing birds. Check out the new Matrix. Its awesome!

I agree, get a blind. Hunted 4 years strictly bow and missed 3 times(they kept seein me). Once i got a blind it was different. Birds would come in and payed no attention to it.
