Hey Strut&Rut maybe those turkeys you are talking about are not wild turkeys. Maybe you hunt near a farm and the farmer has tame turkeys running around. Man I'll bet you have a wall full of fans and beards!!!

I'm with strut&rut. I believe movement is much more important than camo choice. Lots of people still hunt in army woodlands style camo and are successful. I also have read about people that hunt turkeys with traditional colonial clothing, no camo at all! I've even heard that some people will wear some blaze orange (like a hat for example) for safety sake. I've personally had turkeys walk right next to me at about 15 paces and not spook...my shotgun is NOT camoed.

Camo is certainly not necessary. As long as your gun is matte finished you won't have any problem. A turkey could care less whether the stick you're holding is regular black or Mossy Oak. And I know some people who have had the camo scratch and peel off, then water can get under it and really mess it up. Whats killed more turkeys, matte or camo?

My opinion on camo guns is:can't hurt might help.As far as wearing camo, these things are hard enough to get(for me anyhow)that I need every advantage I can get.Turkeys have rods and cones in their eyes just as people do so it"s a known fact they can distinguish colors.I certainly wouldn't wear a bright orange cap, then hope the turkey I was working happens to be color blind! I used a matt gun for years and shot toms. I wanted a dedicated Turkey Gun . I bought it this weekend, in MOBU. I like it . Ahhh... America !! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I tend to agree with "ARO" on his philosophy. It's sorta like the T.V. I just bought a few months ago. I didn't spend the extra $40 to get "picture in picture" and now I'm kicking myself every time a Penguin game comes on at the same time as a good show. LOL
Having said that gun camo is definitely not necessary. A black matte finish works just fine in the turkey woods like others have mentioned.

I agree with the people who say matte finish is just fine. I have hunted and killed big gobblers for 12 years with an old H&R 12 ga single shot, and it dosent have any camo on it at all. But i would stay away from a glossy finish. Althogh it may be pretty, itll give you away in a heartbeat to an old weary gobbler.
